What Types of Teens Does ThreePeaks Ascent Treat?
ThreePeaks Ascent provides short-term residential treatment for teens ages 12–17 who are struggling with emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns that are significantly affecting daily life, school, relationships, or family functioning. We work with teens who need more support and structure than outpatient therapy can provide, but who can safely participate in a residential treatment setting.
Tell us what you are seeing at home. We offer immediate, judgment-free guidance to see if this is the right environment for your teen.
How Do I Know If My Teen Needs Residential Treatment?
Teens may benefit from residential treatment when emotional, behavioral, or mental health struggles begin affecting safety, school performance, family relationships, or daily functioning, and outpatient support is no longer enough.
Is your teenager going through a challenging phase, or could they benefit from professional help? As a parent, it's natural to wonder and worry about your child's well-being. If you've noticed sudden changes in their mood or behavior, or if you have any mental health concerns, it's crucial to consult a therapist. Even common struggles can be better understood and addressed with the guidance of a mental health professional. Don't wait for problems to resolve themselves because they often escalate without intervention.
What Are the Signs My Teen May Need More Support?
Recognizing the warning signs is vital in determining if your struggling teen could benefit from a short-term residential treatment center. These signs include:
- Significant changes in mood or behavior
- Isolating from peers or family
- Unhealthy relationships and negative peer influence
- Difficulties with school, such as failing grades, refusal to attend, or severe anxiety
- Strained relationships with parents or siblings
- Inappropriate or explosive anger outbursts
- Increasing defiance and oppositional behavior
- Overuse of technology or excessive social media consumption
- Engaging in risky sexual behaviors
- Being a victim of bullying or experiencing traumatic events
- Suicidal thoughts or self-harm, such as cutting
- Running away from home
- Lack of progress with outpatient therapy
- Recommendation from a mental health professional for a treatment program
If any of these signs sound like your teen, you don’t have to feel alone in figuring out the right level of care. A mental health professional can help you understand your teen's needs and whether residential treatment is the right next step.

Other Concerns We Treat
ThreePeaks Ascent also works with teens experiencing a range of other emotional, behavioral, relational, and developmental challenges, including:
Why Some Teens Don’t Respond to Traditional Therapy
"We work with a lot of young people who haven't had success or have gotten really good at playing the game of therapy... the beauty of experiential therapy is that the weather is not able to be manipulated... you can’t talk your way outta the rain."

Is My Teen a Good Fit for ThreePeaks Ascent?
ThreePeaks Ascent provides short-term residential treatment for teens who can benefit from a structured therapeutic environment. Some conditions and circumstance require a different level of medical or behavioral care and are not appropriate for the program.
Who Is Not a Fit for ThreePeaks Ascent?
ThreePeaks Ascent is designed for teens who can safely participate in a structured residential treatment program. Some teens need a higher level of medical or psychiatric care than a short-term residential program can provide.
ThreePeaks Ascent may not be appropriate for teens who:
- Need acute medical care or continuous medical monitoring
- Are experiencing active psychosis or an acute psychiatric crisis
- Have current suicidal intent, a plan, or cannot be safely maintained in a residential setting
- Require a level of suicide or self-harm monitoring beyond what our program provides
- Have eating disorders or other medical conditions requiring intensive medical management
- Have a history of serious violence or sexual assault that creates an unsafe environment for the residential community
- Have physical limitations that prevent safe participation in the program
- Are outside our age range of 12–17
If your teen is experiencing an immediate mental health or safety crisis, emergency or inpatient psychiatric care may be more appropriate than residential treatment. Our admissions team can help families understand what level of care may be appropriate for their teen.
